Kathleen Conklin, Director

Abby Shotwell, Apprentice

Kathleen Conklin

Kathleen teaches at Rancho La Puerta, 9 - 16 October, 2010.  www.rancholapuerta.com

The elegance, power and freedom of movement is not solely the language of dancers, but attainable by anyone through the principles of pilates. This technique is grounded firmly in the mechanics of the skeletal system, the geometrically increasing power of coordinated musculature, and the rejuvenation of the circulatory system through breathing - systems inherent in each human body.

In the late 90's, Conklin transitioned from a career in law to teaching from the discipline of the Pilates Method of Physical and Mental Conditioning.

In teaching pilates the last 25,000 hours, she has begun to comprehend the vast shimmering depth of this work.

Kathleen also leads pilates retreats and pilates holidays.

Abby Shotwell,  Apprentice

Abby Shotwell’s romance with Pilates began in 2007 when she started studying with Kathleen Conklin. She is currently completing an Apprenticeship Program at PilateSpa. Abby has a longtime yoga practice and was a competitive runner. After four pregnancies, Abby started her Pilates practice because she realized something was slightly amiss at her core -- even though she was trying to keep active, misalignments left her feeling physically disconnected. Through Pilates training, Abby has found a level of body awareness that brings her much joy and happiness. For Abby, Pilates is about remembering the childhood feeling of a perfect cartwheel. Her current obsession is rolling out her feet on tennis balls and keeping up with her three sons on the monkey bars.

Pilates offers us an awesome lifetime quest for the sweet spot, and Abby looks forward to joining you along the journey. She has found a strong and supportive spirit at PilateSpa and looks forward to offering more community classes in the future.

Abby is available for practice teaching at no cost to the client at this time. Please contact her at abby@pilatespa.com

Emily Greiser, Instructor

Emily left her post as acting director of the busy Manhattan studio, Core Pilates NYC to come to Madison to pursue Graduate studies in African Language and Literature at UW-Madison. Among the many distractions of NYC, Emily found Pilates as a way to keep her mind sharp and her body moving. Emily brings over 4 years of teaching experience on the mat and apparatus. She has taken multiple workshops focusing on the integration of small props such as mini-balls, physio-balls, foam rollers, barrels, hand weights, thera-bands, magic/power circles to the mat and apparatus exercises, as well as those focusing on how to modify the method for people who are pregnant or live with varying limitations from inflexibility, poor balance, to medical conditions such as osteoporosis, arthritis, and scoliosis. In between her "Hundred's" Emily enjoys crocheting and cooking.

In 2005, to share her passion with fitness and her love for Pilates, Dawn pursued the certification to teach Pilates mat. In June, 2010, she became certified to teach on the Pilates apparatus. Dawn also works as a massage therapist, combining bodywork and Pilates to work with the body in an integrated approach.
